For two months I collected dust that settled on the machines during a temporary job in a factory. Collected every day with care and kept in plastic bags I carried in my pocket, the dust joined together until it formed circles. I sewed the circles of dust onto the pages of a 1970s crochet magazine found in my grandmother’s house. I emptied and cleaned her house after fourteen years. The aprons were still hanging in the kitchen, the medicines still in the drawers. I thought about how dust hides under rugs, under things, but also becomes part of them, stratifies and becomes weight, settles and becomes matter. The time of the factory work intertwines with the time of my grandmother’s house. A short time and a very long one.
